SUMMARY

The Original Sound of Sheffield '83 - '87 compiles the 12 Inch A-sides recorded during the years when Cabaret Voltaire was at its most influential.

This is the first release to feature the original 12 inch single mixes from the albums The Crackdown, Micro-phonies, The Covenant, the Sword and the Arm of the Lord, the Drinking Gasoline EP, and Code.

These rare 12 inch mixes have never before been available on CD in the US.

REVIEWS

This is the sound that launched a thousand techno acts.
Sean Carruthers (All Music Guide)

This fine compilation.. shows Cabaret Voltaire emerging from the gloom of industrial experimentation into the bright lights of proto-house. To a generation raised on beats and samples, it might sound dated but listen, and you can hear the faultlines between old and new split and widen. Here is the sound of change. For good.
Victoria Segal, Rating: 8/10 (New Music Express)

...still-mesmeric art-grooves such as Just Fascination and Sensoria serve to remind that the likes of Orbital, not to mention the entire Warp roster, have direct antecedents.
David Sheppard, Rating: 3 stars (Q)
